Pirates drop points

Posted: 8 March 2008 Time: 22:02

Orlando Pirates dropped valuable points in their chase for the Absa Premiership title, drawing 0-0 with Black Leopards at the Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday night.

The result means the Buccaneers move up to third on 35 points, seven adrift of leaders Ajax Cape Town. Leopards remain bottom, but cut the gap to 15th placed Jomo Cosmos to two points.

Peter Mponda had an early effort at goal for Leopards, but his long range drive went wide of goal.

Pirates' first shot in anger only came in the 26th minute, with Teko Modise putting his drive off target.

With both teams struggling to string together good attacking moves, it was little surprise that the first half ended goalless.

Ten minutes after the break Modise had a sight of goal in the penalty area but he put his shot wide of Mashudu Mamphitha's left hand upright.

Pirates mentor Owen Da Gama sent on Irvin Mhlambi and Joseph Makhanya with just over 20 minutes to play, but it was Leopards who almost broke the deadlock in the 77th minute, as Senzo Meyiwa was forced into a brilliant save to deny Robert Ng'ambi.

Makhanya soon fashioned a shot from 12 yards out, but his effort went wide of goal.

Pirates were expected to wallop leopards by a big margin but they were pathetic infront of goal although they dominate the game and its this inconsistency that will eventualy cost them the league. Teko is briliant but hes not God and the soone ODG rest him the better it will be during the last 3-5 game coz i c this league going to the wire.

PIRATES MUST GO OUT AND BUY ONE BIG STRIKER,ONE BIG HOLDING MIDFIELDER AND TWO BIG DEFENDERS.THESE MUST BE QUALITY PLAYERS AND NOT AVERAGE LIKE THE ONES THEY PURCHASED RECENTLY.THIS IS A BIG TEAM AND DOES NOT NEED QUANTITY,BUT ONLY QUALITY

The less said about this unfortunate turn of events to Pirates the better. It is such a good result to the struggling BL. I know ODG always says he is not looking to winning the league, yes, not with this kind of results.

I think O.G.D must blame himself 'cause he thinks the is easy road to the tittle, he is a joke. He saw on Wednesday that the best way to win is to have innovative people or players inside the pitch but he doesn't do that. What they do inside the pitch is what they practice "Going round and Circle" is their type of practice, but they are still learning. YOU DESERVE THAT DRAW BUCS"

There is no way ODG will win the league as he is very defensive and has average plyers as there are not more than 5 players atb Pirates who can stand up and be counted, shame on my team, its hurting

Pirates management must sell, 15 players next season and only buy 6 very good players, otherwise they are going nowhere, ODG have code 8 licence and he is driving extra heavy, he must stop analysing opponents before the game because the opponent would improve on their weekneses, we only interested on the win not the analysis, he must rest Chenene and Modise, play Mashaba and Kamwendo now.

Where are you going to buy strikers from? You claim that South Africa have enough strikers that they should not be importing players from other countries, shame on you. This is a country without stikers material in soccer, look whta is happening in the league, and also judge from history. If there were good strikers here, Chamanga could not be top goal scorer so far, and Katongo could not be top goal scorer half way in the league, just swallow your pride and xenophobic attitudes and import talent, please, if you want to see goals, the league matches will be full of draws

Orlando Pirates must stop trusting players like Paulus Masehe bacause they have never produce any good results for us so please coach wake up and start your game with players like Joseph Makhanya cause we need players with speed.Tico Tico is never a player I am looking forward to have at Orlando Pirates he is the slowest path I can travel with.So coach get speed and height please.

Okay Bucs never drop miximum points, is still early to perdict the team to win tiltle, Leopards fighting regation and bucs fighting the to win, therefore draw is the best result to both teams.
