Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars played to a goalless draw in their Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Amakhosi started the game the brighter side and should have gone ahead in ther third minute when David Obua sent his effort high over the bar following a good low cross by Ditheko Mototo.
Platinum Stars almost took the lead in the 12th minute when George Mofokeng headed Koketso Mmotong’s corner straight at Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune.
Mabhuti Khenyeza threatened the Stars goal in the 14th minute, but the striker saw his long range effort sail wide of goal.
The best chance of the half fell to David Mathebula in the 35th minute when Khenyeza put in a good cross into the six yard area, but the Mathebula sent his point balnk header straight at Stars’ keeper Tapuwa Kapini.
Chiefs had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of half-time, when Khenyeza slotted home, but his effort was ruled out following a foul on Kapini.
The remained 0-0 at half-time.
Stars produced a better showing in the second half, with Edward Williams forcing Khune into a superb save in the 51st minute to deny the midfielder’s fierce drive from hitting the back of the net.
The Tycoons were then strangely awarded a free-kick on the edge of Chiefs’ area in the 56th minute after Mototo fouled Luis Renteria inside the area.
Khenyeza should have broken the deadlock in the 68th minute when he pass played clear by substitute Michael Nkambule, but the striker hesitated, allowing Mofokeng to execute a superb tackle to clear the danger.
And although both sides through caution to the wind in the final 15 minutes or so, neither side could penetrate the other’s defence and were resigned to sharing the spoils.
