Chiefs, Stars play out stalemate

Posted: 5 March 2008 Time: 21:23

Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars played to a goalless draw in their Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Amakhosi started the game the brighter side and should have gone ahead in ther third minute when David Obua sent his effort high over the bar following a good low cross by Ditheko Mototo.

Platinum Stars almost took the lead in the 12th minute when George Mofokeng headed Koketso Mmotong’s corner straight at Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune.

Mabhuti Khenyeza threatened the Stars goal in the 14th minute, but the striker saw his long range effort sail wide of goal.

The best chance of the half fell to David Mathebula in the 35th minute when Khenyeza put in a good cross into the six yard area, but the Mathebula sent his point balnk header straight at Stars’ keeper Tapuwa Kapini.

Chiefs had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of half-time, when Khenyeza slotted home, but his effort was ruled out following a foul on Kapini.

The remained 0-0 at half-time.

Stars produced a better showing in the second half, with Edward Williams forcing Khune into a superb save in the 51st minute to deny the midfielder’s fierce drive from hitting the back of the net.

The Tycoons were then strangely awarded a free-kick on the edge of Chiefs’ area in the 56th minute after Mototo fouled Luis Renteria inside the area.

Khenyeza should have broken the deadlock in the 68th minute when he pass played clear by substitute Michael Nkambule, but the striker hesitated, allowing Mofokeng to execute a superb tackle to clear the danger.

And although both sides through caution to the wind in the final 15 minutes or so, neither side could penetrate the other’s defence and were resigned to sharing the spoils.

Ah, and the folly of youth, so went an acclaimed author in one of his works, but I don't know how that I can put that to the Chiefs team manned by old folks like Bartlett, Nzama and McCarthy. This team is actually going down big time, and is Kaizer snr, still publicly criticising his coach?. But it will get better with time. Did you guys really think that by bringing that stocky guy called Khenyeza would bring you joy?, he was good against you, not for you. Use that advise next time you buy Koketso Mmotong of Stars. See you soon when you draw yet another game. Cheers Chiefs.

Iam a South African working and living in London ,England. Chiefs is indeed my favourate team but hhay these days i dont even wish to watch them.It pains me everytime i check the results and chiefs always play a draw. I mean this team is the no 1 in the country in terms of fans base but we are contesting for the relagation this season ,probably the first time in our history. I mean this is the 2nd time now this Mushin guy is doing this to our wonderful history ,the last time he was with us ,on his last year we couldnt even make it to the top8 we were number 9 ,luckily Kaizer snr was still brave enough to sack him but this time i see he is being loyal and reasonable but i tell you guys this is absolutely disgusting and embarrasing. If this coach was couching any of the English clubs he would have been sacked by now even him he knows that since he is European. Just look at the best coach in the world Jose Mourinho he won two league titles for Chealsea but on the season when he got number 2 in the league but still won the FA Cup and Carling cup ,Chelsea still sacked him. Kaizer snr must Sack this man and gives the chance to F.Madide and Ace Khuse until the end of the season if not then Chiefs fans will wake up next season and we will be playing against teams like Maritsburg United and Dynamos in the 1ST Division. Chiefs is the biggest team in the league they should be contesting for the Africa Champions League yet we cant even make it to the top8.
Cheerz guys

Chiefs won yesterday with a draw. If u doesn’t score they won’t simple as that. You could see this coming if you don’t win you pre-seasons gain on top of that you take out some players without showing the results this is what happen. Robert please stop interviewing this guy because he’s got nothing to say keep on telling you about the players that are not playing. Three week ago he was telling us about Sibeko now that is back is somebody else and those players were there against Ajax. Free State stars are also specialising on draws these days good for Chiefs.

Riot do you still want me to use the name Blaf. I told you, it is impossible. Anyway good luck next time. Wish Chiefs will win their next game. Even though I'm not a Chiefs supporter it could be boring if they are not in the PSL. It will be like Italian league without Juventus, it was boring.

It happens to the best of teams, but in Africa if everything else fails, we consult the downunder for intervention. Kaizer must not think just because his favourite son is hooked to a Larney chick he can forget 'bout those. maybe that chick is Chiefs badluck i dont know. Just grabbing at straws, something or someone must be blamed. It cant be Muhsin alone, never.

On soccer laduma Mhlongo touched on crucial points, of coaches bringing new players in the team + in the end complaining about few individuals contributing with the teams downfall.
His responce was "The coach brings in players + when they under perform/when the team is not gelling whos fault is coz the coach brought in those players....MUSHIN SHOULD BE SACKED TOGETHER WITH HIS PLAYERS COZ HE SEEMS AS IF HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING.....SUNDOWNS SUPPORTER
