Pirates keep winning

Orlando Pirates beat BidVest Wits 2-0 in an ABSA Premiership game at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates have come out of the mid-season break in flying form. The Buccaneers beat BidVest Wits 2-0 at the Johannesburg Stadium, having gained three points against Moroka Swallows three days earlier.

Thanks to the win, Pirates moved into fourth position on the Absa Premiership log, while BidVest Wits remained in third position.

Pirates did not field Bennett Chenene, who sustained an injury against The Birds, and left-back Innocent Mdledle, who was suspended. They were replaced by Tshepiso Tshabalala and the 19-year-old Tlou Segolela, who played on the left-wing.

The Buccaneers had the better chances in the first half, but Gilbert Mushangazhike, header, Kelebogile Mabe, outside right-foot, and Mlungise Gumbi, shot, all failed to hit the target.

In the 36th minute, Wits’ right-winger Richard Rantjie got a golden opportunity in a one-on-one situation with Pirates goalie Senzo Meyiwa, only to deliver a weak shot straight at the keeper.

The second half was livelier with Pirates coach Owen da Gama bringing on Excellent Walaza (for Mpho Rashete) and Tonic Chabalala (for Lehlohonolo Seema) immediately after the break.

Wits thought they has scored a goal, when the ball looked to have crossed the line after a shot from Phil Evans, but linesman Toko Malebo ruled that Pirates’ Happy Jele cleared the ball just in front of the goal-line.

Shortly thereafter, Teko Modise took a free kick in the 55th minute from Pirates’ left-side. He angled the ball in beautifully with his right-foot catching Moeneeb Josephs by surprise as the ball crept in under the post.

Wits tried to push for an equalizer, but Pirates counter-attacked in the 80th minute, with Walaza making space down the right flank. His cross found Tebogo Mashaba, who finished well after initially missing the ball.

“We got enough chances to get a result,” commented Wits coach Roger de Sa, “but it wasn’t to be.”

On Wednesday, Wits will host Kaizer Chiefs at BidVest Stadium, while Pirates will host Mamelodi Sundowns at Johannesburg Stadium.

I am still not convinced of pirates' defence, including the young keeper, I think he is error prone, and for a team that huge I don't understand why thw coach can just go on with him. The midfield under Teko seems decent but there is still no one who can aggresivelly win balls and atleast take the burden from Teko's shoulders. The strike force with the experience of Gilbert Mushangazhike and the talent of Waleza is good to me. I look foward to the Sunday game, and maybe only then will I start commenting on whether there is that opportunity of 10 million or not. Well done to the boys against Swallows and Wits, I am touched.

The Free kick from Teko, remindd me of Steve Lekoelea. Teko is very good and stand a chance of becoming a millionaire(Best palyer of the season).
S Myeiwa will be facing an Acid test on Wednesday. He make fubmbles.
