Absa Premiership match report Mamelodi Sundowns v Orlando Pirates 10 November 2018

Posted: 10 November 2018 Time: 13:34

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates cancelled each other out with a goalless draw in the Absa Premiership

Sundowns and Pirates started with a few changes to their line-up, with injuries to Aubrey Ngoma for Downs while Thabiso Kutumela was one of five changes for Bucs.

Inside the opening minute, a genuine opportunity fell to Jeremy Brockie but shot completely off the mark from the laces of the boot.

A cut back from Justin Shonga saw the ball fell to the path of Kutumela to take a shot from the middle of the park but Denis Onyango managed to get down to make the save.

Sadly, the home side were forced to make an early change as Andile Jali was unable to continue after pulling a muscle and was replaced by Tiyani Mabunda on 13 minutes.

Bucs gradually found their way and was able to pick up spaces behind the opposing defence, which invited Thembinkosi Lorch to a shot on the half-volley.

Then, the half was filled with drama aplenty with the benches of both embroiled in a war of words over challenges and scuffles inside the field, which halted the game for a few minutes.

A curler from the right from Justin Shonga nearly found the top corner but his free-kick unfortunately just flew over the post of Denis Onyango.

Bucs provided more openings at the start of the second half with Vincent Pule beating the offside trap to take a low shot at Onyango who saved easily.

Downs introduced their second change in Phakamani Mahlambi replacing Brockie on the half and hour mark.

And the former immediately struck to action when he connected with a pass on the edge of the box to force Siyabonga Mpontshane saving for a corner.

It took the Buccaneers 65 minutes to make their first change as Kutumela pulled up with cramp and was duly replaced by Zambian Augustine Mulenga.

The bulky forward wasted little time to get stuck and carried a ball from out wide before taking a powerful shot which forced Onyango to hold safely.

With a lack of clear chances, a draw seemed inevitable as neither side appeared promising in the final third of the field of play as the game ended goalless.
