Chiefs and Supersport draw

Posted: 27 October 2007 Time: 10:19

Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport United played to a goalless draw in their Castle Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Amakhosi enjoyed the better of the possession stakes but could not find a way past United keeper Denis Onyango.

Chiefs threatened the Supersport goal from the offset with Simphiwe Tshabalala prominent in most of their attacks, delivering superb crosses into the opposition area, but the Amakhosi strikers could not take advantage of it.

Elias Pelembe went closest for United in the 22nd minute when he volleyed just wide from just inside the area.

David Mathebula should have done better in the 25th minute when he dribbled his way down the right flank, but the winger sent his effort over the bar from the edge of the area, with at least two teammates in better positions.

The second half saw Chiefs continue their dominance with Kaizer Motaung Jnr. hitting the side-netting following superb work from David Mathebula.

Katlego Mashego should have capitalised on Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune’s failure to clear a cross, but the Supersport striker shot into the side-netting, with Katlego Mphela and Pelembe in much better scoring positions.

Mabhuti Khanyeza should have sealed the game in the 90th minute when he latched onto a superb chest down by Shaun Bartlett, but the striker’s shot was too close to Onyango, who made a comfortable save.
