Absa Premiership match report Chippa United v Golden Arrows 22 February 2019

Posted: 22 February 2019 Time: 18:18

Golden Arrows missed a chance to close in on the top eight in the Absa Premiership following a 1-1 draw with Chippa United on Friday evening.

Both sides made three changes apiece as Chippa drafted in Thabo Rakhale, Tebogo Makobela and Lerato Manzini, while Nkosinathi Mathiane, Siyabonga Dube and Velemseni Ndwandwe came in for Arrows.

Following the lukewarm start, Arrows raced ahead when Knox Mutizwa capitalised on good work from Divine Lunga to tap-in from an unguarded position after 21 minutes.

Abafana Besthende were quickly called into action when Nkosingiphile Gumede kept out a low curing effort from Rakhale after 27 minutes.

Chippa continuously knocked on the door of the visitors in the remaining stages of the half, but they were constantly kept out through thorough but resolute defending.

In an attempt to change Chippa's fortunes, coach Clinton Larsen introduced Ruzaigh Gamildien for Makobela after 58 minutes.

Gamildien almost made an instant impact when he his shot from outside the area rattled the frame of the goal, with a hesitant Lentjies unable to profit on the follow-up.

The home outfit eventually grabbed the leveller in the 70th minute after Manzini thumped home a loose ball from the far side of the area to set up an entertaining final 20 minutes.

Barely minutes later, Arrows fumbled in front of goal when Knox Mutizwa failed to turn home a cross from the wide area from point-blank range.

With the final whistle on the horizon, neither side managed to conjure up any worthy opportunities in front of goal, with the encounter ending all square in Port Elizabeth.
