Absa Premiership match report Chippa United v Polokwane City 14 December 2018

Posted: 14 December 2018 Time: 18:18

Mark Mayambela struck late in the second half to earn Chippa United a point against Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership on Friday evening.

A lot was at stake for both Chippa and Polokwane, especially the visitors who had the chance to go second for the first time this season.

Polokwane's first sight on goal saw Rodney Ramagalela cut into his marker on the edge of the box to get a snap shot away and on target inside the opening minutes.

From the left-hand side, Chippa launched their attacks through the pace and skill of Thabo Rakhale and Mark Mayambela who managed to get a half-shot away from such a variation.

With 17 minutes played, a goal-line clearance from Polokwane prevented Andile Mbenyane from finding the opener after Rakhale's cross-field pass disintegrated the entire defensive shape

The response was instant from City and Ramagalela beat his marker to get goal-side before getting his shot away, but Daniel Akpeyi's outstretched leg kept him afloat.

Heading to halftime, Chippa ended the stronger with a few key moments in attack, while Polokwane were pegged back by thorough opposition defending.

Two minutes inside the second half, City went in front after Yanga Nkili out-jumped the Chippa defence  to head into the far corner.

Barely a few minutes later, Chippa drew level through a nice and calm finish from Mbenyane after some impressive build-up play.

Chippa looked to for a second through Rakhale cutting inside the box to get a shot away from inside the box, but it was straight to Ndlovu.

Rakhale, who was real threat down the left, did well to pick Zitha Macheke, who rattled the top of the crossbar at the midway stage of the half.

Mohamed Anas missed a golden chance to put them back level after being sent clear by the defence, but he blasted straight to Akpeyi as time continued to run out for both sides.

The Port Elizabeth side were hoping to end the stronger of the two in the final minutes of the half, but were only reduced to shots flashing across goal from Macheke and Rakhale among others.

With 11 minutes to play, Rise and Shine were back in the lead after Ramagalela's shot from the edge of the box deflected off a defender to wrong-foot Akpeyi before hitting the back of the net.

Chippa, however, were level in added time when Mayambela surged into the box to finish off Rakhale's pass with a stunning top corner finish for a share of the spoils.
