Cape Town City continued their impressive run in the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Polokwane City on Tuesday night,
The Cape Town outfit drew first blood from as early as the sixth minute through a stunning strike from Ayanda Patosi.
Polokwane appeared to be rattled by the fast start, but created a few worrying moments when Rodney Ramagalela brought down a long ball inside the box but shot over the top.
The visitors were more eager to increase their tally and Patosi pounced on a long ball from a free-kick, but shot straight at George Chigova.
Patosi was in the thick of action again when his in-swinging free-kick made contact with Taariq Fielies at the far post but the skipper was unable to get his head down.
It was time for Peter Leeuwenburgh to be tested and Salulani Phiri took aim with a shot from the edge of the area which forced the Dutchman to a finger-tip over the top.
In the second half, Ramagalela found space outside the box and managed to force Leeuwenburgh to a save by getting down at his near post.
Unconvincing defending from Polokwane led to the second when Siphelele Mthembu pounced on a rebound to tap home following Thabo Nodada’s shot from inside the box.
While attempting a come back, the Rise and Shine were dealt a further blow when their skipper Jabulani Maluleke was sent packing for a second bookable offence.
Inside the final 10 minutes, Polokwane were handed a penalty after Puleng Tlolane was clipped down by Thamsanqa Mkhize inside the box.
Ghanaian Mohamed Anas stepped forward and made no mistake to set-up a nervy final quarter of the match.
But the come back was unfortunately not completed as City make it three wins on the bounce.
