Absa Premiership match report Cape Town City v AmaZulu 27 October 2018

Posted: 27 October 2018 Time: 18:20

Cape Town City comfortably saw off AmaZulu with a 3-0 trouncing in an Absa Premiership showdown

Revenge was on the mind of City after the self-same Usuthu knocked them out of the Telkom Knockout in midweek.

And the record was set straight with a first minute lead through the boot of Taariq Fielies after poor goalkeeping from Siyabonga Mbatha where he spilled a free-kick from Ayanda Patosi.

Despite conceding early, Usuthu created chances of their own with Emiliano Tade heading narrowly over the top from a cross out wide.

A double save from Mbatha first denied Patosi from close range and then Surprise Ralani in succession following 20 minutes of action.

It was the turn of Usuthu to press forward when Siyathemba Sithebe’s good skill set-up Nhlanhla Vilakazi to have a shot from range but it didn’t troubled Peter Leeuwenburgh.

A cross from the left hand side by Ralani connected perfectly with Siphelele Mthembu to finish off a well-calculated move for a comfortable two-goal lead.

AmaZulu were struggling to get back into things and despite a few half-chances, failed to properly test Leeuwenburgh.

Following the second half, Usuthu introduced their first change when Ovidy Karuru replaced Rudolph Darpoh.

A ball from Sithebe picked up Bonginkosi Ntuli inside the box who controlled and took a shot away but Leeuwenburgh managed to pushed aside for a corner.

The tempo continued rising from the KwaZulu-Natal side when Sithebe again send through a ball this time to Vilakazi who turned and shot off target.

In the final stages, Thabo Nodada made sure of the victory with a good timed finish to give City only their second league win this year.

Usuthu remain at the bottom with only three points, while City move on 10 points and closer to the top eight standings.
