Absa Premiership match report Kaizer Chiefs v Polokwane City 06 October 2018

Posted: 6 October 2018 Time: 17:13

Polokwane City continued their impressive form in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening.

Played behind closed doors, the game started slowly after neither side were able to find any major breakthroughs.

The first effort on goal unsurprisingly fell to the Glamour Boys when Ryan Moon headed off target following a corner.

Polokwane made a few promising moves, albeit on the counterattack but indecision from their front-men led them down.

As the half and hour mark dawned, the cutting edge still left a lot to be desired from both sides with neither George Chigova and Itumeleng Khune left with little to do.

On 28 minutes, Khune was forced to race off his line to clear a potential goal-scoring opportunity after a through ball from Rodney Ramagalela.

The Amakhosi managed to get a few openings, but Dumisani Zuma fired off target as halftime approached.

City took the lead with a stunning curler from Vusumuzi Mngomezulu after playing a one-two with Ramagalela.

The second half resumed with no changes from either side following the halftime break, with the Amakhosi having to chase down the lead.

Zimbabwean Khama Billiat’s free-kick from close range saw the Amakhosi edging closer to drawing level with little in the way of upsetting the hosts on 57 minutes.

The strong defending from Polokwane didn’t end, opting to sustain their approach of keeping men behind the ball whilst playing on the break.

With 20 minutes to go, City introduced Walter Musona for the goal-scorer Mngomezulu in an attempt to gun for more goals.

The Soweto giants brought on more attacking fuel when Hendrick Pule Ekstein entered the picture for a seemingly ineffective Lebogang Manyama.

The Rise and Shine were making life difficult as Billiat strayed offside multiple times due to the high-line adopted by Jozef Vukusic.

Substitute Bernard Parker fired in the last chance of the game in added time but Chigova made an easy save as Polokwane go fifth tied on points with the Amakhosi.
