Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
The two sides made a slow start, creating a paltry amount of chances throughout the first half with neither goalkeeper tested.
The best chance though fell to Maritzburg's Rashine De Reuck, whose volley from outside the box as Darren Keet came to their rescue.
Keletso Makgalwa was proving to be a handful, managing to keep the visitors on the back-foot with his off-the-ball runs.
A free-kick on the edge of the box following misdemeanors from Cole Alexander invited Makgalwa to step up to beat Keet, but the latter collected calmly.
In the second half, the first change happened at the start with Gavin Hunt bringing on Vuyo Mere for captain Thulani Hlatshwayo.
The pace of the game started with the exact tempo is in the first, as both outfits moved slowly out of the starting blocks.
That was until Deolin Mekoa’s shot from 30-yards called the visitors goalkeeper- Keet to push over the bar.
After earning a national call-up recently, Mxolisi Machupu’s pin-point header resulted in a one-handed tip from Richard Ofori.
Minutes from coming on, Wits' Simon Murray missed a sitter from inside the box after a good cross-field pass from Machupu on 73 minutes.
Substitute Gift Motupa missed from close range after collecting the ball from a poor clearance by Ofori, played a one-two with Hotto but shot embarrassingly over the bar.
Hotto’s run down shoulder of the defence presented him with an opportunity to shot at goal but Ofori saved for a corner a minute to added time.
At the other end, Keet showed his reflexes denying Mohau Mokate from point-blank range two minutes into added time.
The Students will rue this result as two points dropped than two gained, despite remaining on top of the table right now.
