Chippa United and Black Leopards played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday evening.
Chippa came into the game with their backs against the wall after losing their opening two encounters, whilst Leopards bright start saw them earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Highlands Park last time out.
Played at a packed Dukashe venue, the Chilli Boys started promisingly with Ruzaigh Gamildien out wide while Mark Mayambela pulled strings from midfield.
For Leopards, the presence in attack of Mwape Musonda appeared threatening early on after catching the hosts napping on a few instances through the counter-attacking phase.
A brilliant ball from Karabo Tshepe sent Khuliso Mudau one-on-one with Daniel Akpeyi for an easy finish on six minutes.
Parity was quickly restored as Andile Mbenyane met a cross from Gamildien to head in the bottom corner four minutes later for the club’s first goal this season.
Lidoda Duvha still kept up the pressure and nearly regained the lead after Akpeyi failed to clear his line, fortunately Mudau failed to complete his brace lobbing over the bar with a gaping net.
Good control from Thabo Rakhale to bring down a long ball invited him to trickle past his marker to curl in the top corner only to stuck the top of the woodwork.
The second half got off to a slow pace, as both sides appeared to study each other out first before anything.
Leopards regained the lead after Akpeyi failed to parry Musonda’s shot, allowing for an easy low finish from Tumelo Khutlang on 59 minutes.
Chippa then again nearly drew level, but a snap shot from Gamildien did little to find its way through the back of the net. At the other end, Tshivhavhudzi Ndou lined up for a free-kick outside the box and struck the outside of the post.
Following a period of uncertainty from an offensive and defensive point of view from both sides. In added time, Thamsanqa Sangweni missed from close metres failing to head from an open net.
The points was shared when Thathoganye Kgamanyane headed in Daine Klate’s corner as Leopards went to sleep with the last kick of the game.
