Absa Premiership match report Maritzburg United v Golden Arrows 05 August 2018

Posted: 5 August 2018 Time: 13:07

Golden Arrows' Absa Premiership campaign started on a high following a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon.

Arrows switched play to the near side with Siyanda Zwane getting on the end of a delivery, but a left-footed shot from the latter failed to trouble Richard Ofori.

A free-kick from Danny Venter played in Danny Phiri who got a header in, but it wasn’t strong enough to beat Ofori on 25 minutes.

The home side provided little telling moments at this point, but nothing tangible of note was troubling for Arrows.

In the second half, the slow tempo continued. Nkosingiphile Gumede though was forced to make an outstanding save to block Deolin Mekoa from netting.

Moments after, Gumede was in the thick of things again, this time denying Fortune Makaringe from close range with another stunning save.

Arrows took the lead on 71 minutes when Knox Mutizwa provided an audacious overhead-kick that gave Ofori no chance.

Lerato Lamola rounded off the victory for Abafana Besthende in added time with a cool finish after catching the hosts on the break.
