Posted: 4 August 2018 Time: 16:19

Cape Town City walked away 2-0 winners over SuperSport United to get their 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign off to a flying start.

SuperSport were tasked with the earlier defending when Clayton Daniels showed his aerial prowess to clear Siphelele Mthembu’s goal-ridden attempt off the line on seven minutes.

Evans Rusike turned inside the box after collecting from the middle but debutant Peter Leewenburgh did well to go down and make the save later on.

Good work from Riyaad Norodien down the wing set-up Bradley Ralani who returned the pass to him before having a crack at goal but Ronwen Williams got down to make the save on 19 minutes.

Norodien was in the thick of things again when a powerful drive from outside the box, but Williams again was up to the task with a stunning block on 38 minutes.

City wasted no time asserting their early dominance in the second half, with a cracking volley from Roland Putsche handing them the lead in the 56th minute.

SuperSport starting life under new coach Kaitano Tembo, were all at sea and it was about to get worse for them.

With City all out pressing for more goals, substitute Craig Martin headed the call with a simple finish at the far post for a two-goal lead on 67 minutes.

Despite the late pressure from United, the Citizens kept their cool for an easy opening season triumph in front of their home crowd.
