Bidvest Wits are through to the first round of the CAF Champions League after they beat Pamplemousses from Mauritius 2-1 on aggregate.
The sides met in the second leg preliminary round encounter at Anjalay Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, looking to get themselves a step closer to the group stages of the competition.
Wits won the first leg in Johannesburg 2-0, but knew that they could not underestimate their opponents. Coach Gavin Hunt brought in captain Thulani Hlatshwayo and Bongani Khumalo in defence after they were left out of the first leg encounter, as Buhle Mkhwanazi and Keegan Ritchie made way.
In midfield, former Orlando Pirates man Sifiso Myeni came in for the injured Thabang Monare. Myeni has tons of experience on the continent, having previously played with the Buccaneers in both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Kevin Perticots got the only goal of the game for Pamplemousses, but the hosts were unable to get more goals as the Clever Boys progressed.
Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt has insisted that he wants to see his side doing well in the Champions League this season. After winning their first domestic league title last season, they have a chance to make their maiden appearance in the group stages this season. They just need to build on the result against Pamplemousses.
Wits line-up: Peters, Frosler, Hlatshwayo, Khumalo, Gordinho (Gyimah), Scott, Ntshangase, Myeni, Kodisang (Mhango), Pule, Rodgers (Majoro)
