Eleazor Rodgers struck in the dying minutes to hand Santos a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu in their Castle Premiership clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Rodgers’ equaliser came after Lovers Mohlala handed Usuthu the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

The hosts dominated from the offset and should have gone up in the sixth minute when Dumisani Ngwenya was played through on goal, but Santos keeper Wayne Roberts produced a superb save to deny the striker.

Although Usuthu dominated for most of the half, they failed to penetrate the Santos, with Bafo Biyela going close a minute before the break with a curling free-kick that Roberts tipped around for a corner.

The match remained goalless at the break.

AmaZulu took the lead in the 61st minute when Wayne Arendse brought down Mpho Maleka inside the area, with the striker clear on goal, and Mohlala slotted home from the spot. Arendse was lucky to only receive a yellow card for his foul.

Rodgers’ introduction minutes later changed the game in the visitors’ favour.

However, with the People’s Team pushing more men forward, they were vulnerable to being caught on the break by AmaZulu, who twice succeeded in getting behind the Santos defence, with Ngwenya shooting wide in the 70th minute and Roberts saving from Maleka in the 89th minute.

Bax saw his header from a Rodgers cross tipped over by Lawrence Ncala seconds in the 89th minute, before Rodgers rose highest to head home a corner by Romano Scott in the 90th minute to hand Santos a deserved point.
