Golden Arrows proved too strong for 10-man Kaizer Chiefs as they romped to a 3-1 win in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday evening.
Arrows went ahead after four minutes with a deft touch from Lerato Lamola, who beat Itumeleng Khune at the far post with a cheeky lob.
They looked for a second soon after but a long-range shot by Siphelele Magubane was easily dealt with by Khune.
Following a horrendous challenge on Matome Mathiane by Leonardo Castro, the Colombian was dismissed for dangerous play on 16 minutes.
That urged Arrows to utilise their numerical advantage as Lamola closed in on a brace following a looping ball into the box but could only find the top of the net.
Despite trailing by a goal and a man, the Glamour Boys continued looking for the equaliser and constructed a few promising moves.
They finally clawed their way back following a delightful finish by Bernard Parker after a through ball from Joseph Molangoane on 43 minutes to head into the break level pegging.
Abafana Bes'thende made the first change at the start of the second half. Clinton Larsen took off Sandile Zuke for Danny Phiri given the former’s earlier booking, thus fearing for his dismissal.
The hosts went back in front, again through Lamola, who tapped home a cut back from Danny Venter following good work on the wing on 48 minutes.
Siphiwe Tshabalala was on course to finding the equaliser after lining up for a free-kick on the edge of the box, but Maximilian Mbaeva was well alert to the danger on 65 minutes.
The Glamour Boys made their first change, with goal-scorer Parker replaced by Dumisani Zuma two minutes later.
It did little to re-instill belief in their front men, but regardless they didn’t let up, with George Maluleka going close with a deflected shot that ricochet for a corner.
In the final 10 minutes, it was the former SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town man who threatened to get the leveler after seeing his shot cleared off the line.
Arrows made the points safe in added time with a cool finish by Velemseni Ndwandwe after being played clean through on goal.
