SuperSport United dented Orlando Pirates' Absa Premiership title hopes with a 0-0- draw at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.
United recalled Ronwen Williams to goal, while Clayton Daniels and Evans Rusike also returned after missing the last encounter away to Polokwane City.
Pirates drafted back Mpho Makola in their only change and were quickly on the back-foot after United tried to sneak in an early opener through Aubrey Modiba, but Siyabonga Mpontshane was well alert.
Matsatsantsa, on a steady decline from last season, were soon under the gauge after Justin Shonga’s free-kick from the right hit the top of the goal after 12 minutes.
A minute later, they found themselves having to defend again after Teboho Mokoena picked out Modiba at the far post but the latter was unable to make his headed attempt count.
The game swung back in Bucs' favour shortly after Innocent Maela whipped in a telling delivery for Shonga, who failed to make Daniels pay for a poor misjudgment with a wayward effort.
The opposing defence would be cut open yet again to play in Shonga who, after racing through on goal, shot aimless at an advancing Williams.
Pirates were all over United as half-time approached and Makola came close but was denied by the post after trying to side-foot a cross by Maela as the half ended goalless.
Five minutes after the break, Luvuyo Memela almost found his sixth goal of the season with a curling effort from the right that saw Williams produce an excellent fingertip save.
Bucs' first change came after 65 minutes which saw Mthokozisi Dube getting replaced by Marshall Munetsi.
With time going by, the search to the elusive winner continued to evade both sides and they were forced to settle for a point each.
