Golden Arrows and Free State Stars had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Absa Premiership in KwaMashu on Saturday.
Arrows were looking to make it two wins from two after their away victory over Cape Town City in midweek.
They made a promising start early on, putting pressure on Ea Lla Koto but were unable to find the killer touch in front of goal.
Lerato Lamola managed to turn inside the box and got a shot in, but wasn’t able to find the target on 18 minutes gone.
Stars came out of their shells after absorbing the earlier pressure and launched a free-kick into the box, but Maximilian Mbaeva managed to handle safely.
Arrows looked the more promising every time they got on the ball and Danny Venter managed to get on the far side and fired in a dangerous shot, but was unable to find the target after 31 minutes.
In the second half, Abafana Besthende restarted their all-out attacking approach and nearly went in front after Jabulani Shongwe’s shot came crashing off the crossbar.
Stars took the lead against the run of play after a clearance from Nkanyiso Mngwengwe went wrong, deflecting into his own net after 59 minutes.
Arrows made the first change, bringing on Siphelele Magubane and minutes later Wayde Jooste with time running out for them to claw their way back.
It paid dividends with under 20 minutes from time when Magubane popped up in the box to slot home the leveler for a hard-earned point in their top-eight aspirations this season.
