Absa Premiership match report AmaZulu v Chippa United 07 January 2018

Posted: 7 January 2018 Time: 12:44

Chippa United moved into the top eight  after beating AmaZulu 2-0 in an Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The match started at a slow pace in the opening 10 minutes as both sides were still sizing each other up with no real opportunities created.

In the 22nd minute, Rhulani Manzini had a chance to have a good crack at the goals for the hosts with a free-kick on the edge of the box, but his strike sailed over the bar.

The intensity of the match increased after half-an-hour as Zaphaniah Mbokoma nearly opened the scoring for the Chilli Boys after going clear on goal but his strike sailed wide.

Ovidy Karuru had a good chance to break the deadlock for AmaZulu in the 37th minute but he lacked the height to power a header into the back of the net.

Three minutes before the break, Kurt Lentjies should have given Teboho Moloi's charges the lead after going clear on goal but he fired a tame low shot that was comfortably saved by  goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro

Linda Mntambo broke the deadlock for the Chilli Boys six minutes into the second stanza with a superb shot from just outside the box that found the top corner, 0-1.

Mntambo got his brace a minute after the hour after getting a return pass in the centre of the box and placed his shot into the bottom corner, 0-2.

Cavin Johnson went for broke with 15 minutes left on the clock, taking off midfielder Michael Morton for veteran striker Mabhuti Khenyeza.

The Chilli Boys were finding opportunities on counter-attacks as the home side left big spaces at the back but the score remained 2-0 as the referee brought an end to game.
