Absa Premiership match report AmaZulu v Baroka FC 01 November 2017

Posted: 1 November 2017 Time: 17:51

Baroka sustained their position at the top of the Absa Premiership table after they drew 1-1 with AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

The match started very quietly with both teams adopting a cautious approach early on.

Whilst most of the match was played in the centre of the park, there were a few worrying moments for both sets of defences before the match really sparked to life.

The visitors were eventually awarded a penalty after 31 minutes. Gift Motupa was as elusive as ever, as he evaded two defenders before being brought down.

Motupa dusted himself off to convert the spotkick and to hand the visitors the lead, 0-1.

The Limpopo outfit's joy was short-lived, as Usuthu marksman Rhulani Manzini ‘s spectacular overhead kick found the back of the net to equalise for the home side.

Boysen Mbatha made way for Siyethemba Mnguni for the home side at the start of the second half.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, which was interrupted by a number of substitutions and stoppages.

Manzini was replaced by the experienced Mabhuti Khanyeza after 74 minutes as AmaZulu manager Cavin Johnson searched for a winning goal.

However, it wasn’t to be as the match ended all square in Durban, with Baroka moving on to 17 points at the summit of the table.

The Limpopo outfit maintained their two-point lead over Golden Arrows after 10 games apiece. AmaZulu are ninth in the standings with 12 points from nine games.
