Mamelodi Sundowns continued their dominance over Tshwane rivals SuperSport United as they walked away 2-0 victors in their Absa Premiership opener.
Goals on either side of half-time from Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane saw The Brazilians claim the bragging rights and the three points at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Proceedings got off to a slow start as both sides got a feel for one another in the opening 15 minutes, with either keeper going untested.
The game sprung to life in the 25th minute as Downs probed the SuperSport defence, with Clayton Daniels popping up twice to deny Khama Billiat from inside the area.
Aubrey Modiba came close to breaking the deadlock in the 32nd minute, breaking into space before unleashing a powerful right-foooted shot from range that rattled the top of the crossbar.
Kekana opened the scoring just a minute later, as he received a well-placed pass from Billiat before sending his shot beyond Ronwen Williams and into the bottom left corner to give his side the lead.
Percy Tau was brought down in stoppage time but referee Victor Gomes saw nothing in it as he waved play-on, much to the dismay of Pitso Mosimane.
Downs started the second stanza much like they finished the first, as Zwane brilliantly made his way into the box before unleashing a low shot beyond an outstretched Williams to double his team's lead in the 50th minute.
Bradley Grobler made a surging run as he beat his marker inside the Sundowns box, but his shot from an acute angle was blocked by Bangaly Soumahoro at the nearpost.
Denis Onyango was called to action just after the hour mark as Grobler once again proved problematic for the Ugandan shot-stopper, who was up to the task as he palmed a headed effort over his crossbar.
Daniels was kept busy in the second half as he continued to thwart the likes of Tau and substitute Anthony Laffor, twice blocking threatening balls across the face of his own goal.
With 15 minutes to go, the hosts were down to 10 men as captain Dean Furman took one for the team, bringing down Tau to hault a promising counter-attack by the Brazilians.
