Ajax Cape Town moved up to fourth spot in the Absa Premiership following their 3-1 win over Bay United at the Absa Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams went into this fixture desperate for all three points, Bay United having lost their last two games and Ajax without an away win in the league since beating Moroka Swallows back in September.
Bay United started the more positive side and created a few shooting chances early in the game, though they failed to test Ajax keeper Sean Roberts.
On ten minutes Adebayo Abayomi was put through one-on-one but Eduardo Ferreira did well to tracked back and thwarted his shooting opportunity. Seconds later winger Franklyn Cale swung in a dangerous cross and Mabhuti Khenyeza got to the ball before Bay keeper Arthur Bartman, however, the Ajax striker used his hand to knock the ball past the despairing keeper, before slotting the ball into an empty net to give Ajax the lead.
In the 16th minute Zakazaka had a great chance to equalise but his header sailed over the crossbar from the edge of the small box.
Ajax continued to create further chances and Dipsy Selolwane, Sifiso Vilakazi and Khenyeza all went close to adding to the score.
Just two minutes into the second half Ajax skipper Brett Evans extended their lead, getting the last touch on the ball after Khenyeza flicked on a header from a corner.
Nhlanhla Shabalala saw his 30-yard drive come back off the upright in the 80th minute, with Khenyeza failing to finish off the rebound, while Jimmy Zakazaka almost pulled one back for Bay United in the 84th minute, but his free-kick clipped the top of the crossbar.
In the latter stages United pile on the pressure and were rewarded in the 90th minute when substitute Khayalethu Ngangqu scored after the another Zakazaka free-kick came crashing off the upright.
The Urban Warriors restored their two-goal in the 94th minute when Cale's long ball found substitute Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, who rounded the keeper and finished well to hand Ajax a deserved win.
