Stars get off to winning start

Posted: 26 October 2007 Time: 12:31

Platinum Stars played well to beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in their opening Castle Premiership match of the season at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The goal was scored by Koketso Mmotong.

Stars were very much the better looking side, well organized and definitely deserved the win.

In the 21st minute Stars should have scored when Henrico Botes beat a defender and crossed the ball to Collen Makgopela, in front of goal, who hit his shot straight at the keeper missing a golden scoring opportunity.

The best chance that fell for Arrows was in the 35th minute when Vusumuzi Vilakazi received the ball in the goal area but hammered his shot over the bar.

In the 44th minute Stars took the lead when Koketso Mmotong received the ball down the middle and made a good run forward to score with a thumping shot from inside the box to give his side the lead.

The visitors defended their lead well, trying to catch Arrows on the break.

In the end the better side got the three points.
