SuperSport United went back to the top of the Absa Premiership after a 3-1 win over Maritzburg United at the Woodburn Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tshwane side move into first place on 31 points, one ahead of Ajax Cape Town.
Maritzburg stay second from bottom on 16 points, and will be bitterly disappointed at not having repeated the form that saw them beat Ajax 2-0 at the weekend.
Brice Aka tested Denis Onyango as early as the fourth minute with a terrific shot from just outside the penalty area, but the Ugandan goalkeeper was equal to the task.
Three minutes later SuperSport took the lead via the head of defender Morgan Gould, who converted Elias Pelembe's in-swinging corner kick.
And the Mozambican so nearly created another goal in the 15th minute, again providing a dangerous cross, but Anthony Laffor was unable to keep his header down.
The hosts almost came up with a reply in the 16th when Sipho Mngomezulu's shot flashed just past Onyango's right hand upright, but two minutes later they were level, Lynch Pule heading into the back of the net from Siphiwe Mkhonza's cross.
Bongani Khumalo missed a chance to put the visitors back in the lead when he headed over from six yards out, and then John Arwuah drilled a powerful shot just over the crossbar from 25 yards out in the 33rd minute.
Six minutes into the second half Gould could have had his second goal of the afternoon when he met Laffor's cross, but the defender's header crashed back off the crossbar. A short while later Pelembe drove a powerful shot over Tashrique Goldman's crossbar.
Last season's Player of the Year missed another chance when he headed off target in the 67th, but three minutes later he steered Laffor's cross past Goldman to make it 2-1 in favour of Matsatsantsa.
On loan Orlando Pirates striker Excellent Walaza nearly doubled SuperSport's advantage in the 88th minute, hitting the upright with a long range effort, but the final chance of the game was left to Pelembe, who struck a superb shot from 20 metres out to cap a fine victory for coach Gavin Hunt's team.
