Baroka FC were twice denied victory against Stellenbosch FC as the opening match of the 2017 PSL Promotion-Relegation Playoffs finished in a 2-2 draw at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
Bakgaga's Maboke Matlakala headed a corner over early on, while Diego Brown flashed skied a shot for the hosts from close range around the half-hour mark.
The visitors took the lead in the 39th minute courtesy of a goal from Mxolisi Kunene at Athlone Stadium.
However, Jarrod Moroole equalised on the stroke of half-time with a fine strike in Cape Town.
Baroka didn’t have to wait long after the restart to reclaim their lead, though, as Nkosinathi Ndlovu produced a sublime free-kick which left the goalkeeper no chance before finding the back of the net.
The host almost found an instant response and arguably should have gone level as Cleopas Dube, on as a substituted barely two minutes prior, somehow poked wide of a glaringly empty goal.
However, the Cape Town side weren’t to be denied and again grabbed the equaliser, this time David Booysen heading home a very good effort with an hour gone on the clock to earn Stellenbosch a vital point in their playoff opener.

Baroka: Masuluke, Mahashe, Kgoetyane, Shaku, Matlakala, Ndlovu, Maleka, Masenamela, Letsoalo, Kunene, Munetsi.
