Cape Town City eased into the final of the Telkom Knockout with a thumping 4-1 victory over Free State Stars at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Lebogang Manyama, Roland Putsche , Mpho Matsi and Aubrey Ngoma set up the win, while Thokozani Sekotlong scored a magnificent consolation for Stars.

City were without regular central defenders Tsepo Gumede and Robyn Johannes through suspension, and instead paired Ghana junior international Joseph Adjei and Thamsanqa Mkhize in the centre-back positions.

Stars were again without injured captain Paulus Masehe, but had in-form keeper Thela Ngobeni in goal and the muscle of Moeketsi Sekola up front.

City made the brighter start and after Ngoma had tested the palms of Ngobeni, Stars captain Katlego Mashego gave away a penalty with a wild lunge in his own box.

Manyama stepped up to score his sixth goal of the season as he easily buried the penalty in the top corner.

It was all City as Ngobeni made an excellent double-stop from Sibusiso Masina and then Ngoma, before denying the former again after some brilliant build-up play.

And they did made it 2-0 when Davis Nkausu gave the ball away and it found it's way to the Austrian Roland Putsche on the edge of the box. He was given time and space to drill the ball into the bottom corner.

After Manyama had spurned another great chance, Stars managed to pull a goal back through a blinder of a free-kick.

Thokozani Sekotlong curled a magnificent effort into the top-corner to give Shu-Aib Walters no chance.

City restored their two-goal advantage though as Mpho Matsi turned home Manyama's corner at the back post for an easy finish.

And the game was over as a contest with 10 minutes to play when Ngoma was set free one-on-one with Ngobeni and he finished to make the score 4-1.
