SuperSport United Ajax Cape Town Telkom Knockout last 16 report

Posted: 22 October 2016 Time: 19:38

SuperSport United needed 120 minutes to edge Ajax Cape Town 1-0 after extra time in their Telkom Knockout last 16 clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the game went to extra time.

Thuso Phala put SuperSport ahead in the 92nd minute with a deflected strike off Erick Chipeta before the game had to be suspended due to dangerous weather in Atteridgeville.

After a couple of stoppages in play due to the incoming storm, the match had to be called off temporarily after strong winds unhinged advertising boards before also tipping over the SuperSport dugout as players had to scamper from the area to avoid injuries.

Once the game resumed neither side was able to create any further goalscoring opportunities as the scoreline remained 1-0 to Matsatsantsa, who progress to the quarter-finals.
