Cape Town City struck two goals late into extra time to knock Bloemfontein Celtic out of the Telkom Knockout in the last 16 at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.
Lehlohonolo Majoro missed out for City due to a throat infection but Judas Moseamedi returned, while Lantshene Phalane was suspended for Celtic after picking up a red card in their previous match against Platinum Stars.
The game was a dour affair with little in the way of quality as neither side managed to find any fluidity in their game, and there was a general lack of goulmouth action.
Moseamedi had the best chance to score in the 36th minute when he was picked out by Matt Sim from the left, unmarked on the six-yard line, but the striker was unable to get over the ball and direct his finish on target.
Celtic had a sight of goal when Khethokwakhe Masuku was played through on goal, with goalkeeper Shi-Aib Walters coming out and leaving his whole goal to aim at, but Masuku could only lift his shot over the goal-frame.
The game went to extra time after 90 minutes, and took on the same pattern until Tshepo Rikhotso was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 112th minute.
Three minutes later Aubrey Ngoma played substitute Sibusiso Masina down the right, he beat a defender in the box before finishing at Patrick Tignyemb's near post after the goalkeeper tried to anticipate a far-post shot.
And in the 117th minute it was game over for Celtic as Kabelo Mahlasela put the ball into his own net from close range after Thabo Nodada got his shot all wrong, and 2-0 it ended.
