Milano United gave their NFD survival hopes a boost with a 2-0 victory over Mthatha Bucks at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday.
On a sweltering afternoon in Cape Town the home side took the lead after just six minutes played when Dillan Solomons scored from outside the box.
Bucks rallied after the break in search of an equaliser but were unable to trouble the Milano defence, which held firm.
Milano almost went 2-0 up in the 69th minute when Thurlow Wood forced a save out of Bucks goalkeeper Ntando Nkala but Eezy My Kinnes eventually got their two-goal fusion four minutes later when new signing Slovo Mrawu scored on the counter-attack.
The result puts a dent in Bucks’ promotion playoff ambitions but eases Milano’s relegation worries somewhat.
