NFD: No separating Cape Town All Stars and FC Cape Town at Parow Park

Posted: 3 March 2017 Time: 17:22

There could be no separating Cape Town All Stars and FC Cape Town as Friday’s Mother City derby at Parow Park finished goalless.

The hosts asked most of the questions in the early stages and came close after 26 minutes but Linda could only fire his shot wide of the mark, while Setelele had a good chance from a header with four minutes left in the half, only to send his effort straight at Khoza.

Setelele twice came close to breaking the deadlock in the second-half, first turning his mark and firing agonisingly wide after 64 minutes before being expertly denied by the goalkeeper after having another pop 14 minutes from time.

FC Cape Town had a good chance to maybe snatch the points in the final seven minutes after some reckless defending from Stars saw the visitors win a free-kick in a promising position, but they were unable to make the most of it as Mpakumpaku remained untroubled in goal.

The result took All Stars up to 10th in the NFD standings with 24 points from 20 games while FC Cape Town climbed to 11th, just one point adrift of their city rivals.

Teams:

CT All Stars: Mpakumpaku, Saal, Maphanga, Modisane, Mvalo, Meyiwa (Akosah-Bempah 81’), Mbunjana, Sekese, Bhengu (Jacobus 55’), Ngwepe (Nguye 35'), Setelele.

FC Cape Town: Khoza, Ndlovu, Gwala, Molomo, Pietersen, Ndzie, Chiwunga, Diale, Mathosi, Isaacs, Haun.
