Tycoons add to Bay woes

Bay United's problems only got worse on Saturday afternoon when they went down fighting in an Absa Premiership fixture at the Mmabatho Stadium. United hold up the bottom of the log as their woes grow after another 2-0 defeat to Platinum Stars.
United never intended on winning this game, instead they packed the midfield and hoped to play for a draw. It did not prove an easy task as they were reduced to ten men earlier on and were under constant fire from the Tycoons' attack.
The first decent chance of the game, funnily enough, went the way of Umlilo and was created by the quick feet and a snap shot from Lawerence Matross in the tenth minute. He showed some good skill which allowed him to create some space for himself before firing a 25 yard shot that just sailed over the cross bar.
The game was then dramatically turned on its head when Jermaine Christian was given a straight red card for elbowing Bradley Grobler in the face while challenging for a high ball, seriously injuring him. The referee made the right decision in dismissing Christian, reducing United to ten men. Grobler was substituted and rushed off to hospital for treatment to a bad cut to his face.
Stars slowly took control of the game, dominating possession and creating chances in front of goal. Edward Williams came closest to breaking the deadlock for the Tycoons when he struck the cross bar with a powerful 20 yard shot in the 24th minute.
United, on the other hand, played a dangerous game, defending high up the field trying not to allow Stars any space in the midfield. As a result the Tycoons were constantly caught offside.
Williams came close to scoring again two minutes before the break when a cross from the right wing found him unmarked inside the box, but his header was extremely poor as he failed to even hit the target. Bay United managed to keep a clean sheet going into the half time break.
Under constant pressure in the second half and with their players tiring, it was only a matter of time before the Tycoons broke down the Umlilo defence and found the goal they so rightly deserved.
That goal came in the 62nd minute courtesy of a substitute. Tshepo Ramokala drove down the left flank and produced an inch perfect cross to find the head of Simba Marumo, who made no mistake from only a couple of yards out with a clinical headed finish, 1-0.
United were now forced to press forward in search of an equaliser or they would remain at the bottom of the Absa Premiership. In doing so they were going to leave gaps at the back which Stars tried to exploit.
Ramokala should have wrapped matters up in the 71st minute when he only had the keeper to beat but his shot skewed of the side of his boot with an open goal begging.
The miss didn't matter much because Luis Renteria sealed matters 12 minutes later when he scored his side's second goal to pick up a vital three points for Stars as they registered their sixth win of the season.
United go away with out any points, once again compounding their problems at the bottom of the log.
