Absa Premiership match report Ajax Cape Town vs Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 13 May 2017 Time: 18:50

Ajax Cape Town hoisted themselves back into the Absa Premiership’s top eight after romping to a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

First-half goals from Prince Nxumalo and Bantu Mzwakali proved the difference as the Urban Warriors climbed back into eighth place on goal difference with just two games remaining, while Celtic are now out of the running for a place in next season’s MTN8.

The Urban Warriors got off to a flying start and took the lead with just four minutes gone, Ayanda Makua breaking down the wing and cutting inside before finding Prince Nxumalo, who smartly rounded Patrick Tignyemb before rolling into the net.

With less than 20 minutes gone the hosts made it 2-0, Nxumalo turning provider after skipping right through the Siwelele defence before passing to Bantu Mzwakali, who walked the ball into an empty net.

Ajax then had Brandon Peterson to thank for keeping them two goals ahead after the goalkeeper first got down well to deny Abdul Razak before showing firm gloves to hold on to Lyle Lakay’s rasping drive.

The Urban Warriors showed no sign of taking their foot off the gas in the second period and Alfred Ndengane came within inches of scoring a third but failed to keep his header on target as he put the ball agonisingly wide.

Nxumalo was proving a live wire for Ajax and again came close with just over an hour gone after bursting through on goal with just the keeper ahead of him, although Tignyemb was off his line in a flash and just managed to nip the ball off the striker.

Celtic then wasted a glorious chance to halve the deficit with 67 minutes gone on the clock but Ayanda Dlamini, somehow, with all of the goal gaping, managed to skew his shot horribly wide, much to the joy of the home fans, and the dismay of the visitors.
