PSL Absa Premiership match report Golden Arrows Maritzburg United KwaZulu-Natal derby

Posted: 4 March 2017 Time: 17:17

Golden Arrows claimed bragging rights with a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal derby at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday night.

New Arrows signing Knox Mutizwa decided affairs by nodding home a free-kick into the box just before the break in KwaMashu. The Zimbabwean forward has struck twice and provided as many assists since joining the top-eight hopefuls on loan from title contenders Bidvest Wits in January.

The Team of Choice, with just one victory in their last seven games, will get a chance for revenge when the sides meet again in the Nedbank Cup at the same venue on March 12.

The result lifted Abafana Bes'thende above Polokwane City to sixth on the Absa Premiership table with 27 points from 20 matches - four points more than eighth-placed Maritzburg.

City can reclaim sixth spot when they play their game in hand against struggling neighbours Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday (15h30).

In an earlier derby on Saturday afternoon, Kaizer Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw with Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.
