Ajax Cape Town Chippa United PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 21 December 2016 Time: 18:14

Prince Nxumalo netted a late winner for Ajax Cape Town as they grabbed a deserved 1-0 Absa Premiership victory over Chippa United at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

Chippa fought bravely but never quite managed to trouble the Ajax goal and were undone two minutes from time when Travis Graham provided the through-ball and Nxumalo beat Daniel Akpeyi in the visitors’ goal.

It was a third goal of the season for the forward, who might have had a hat-trick on another night as Aax created numerous scoring opportunities.

With 18-year-old Grant Margeman pulling the strings in midfield, they peppered Akpeyi’s goal with shots, but the keeper had a fine night himself until being finally beaten.

Nxumalo had earlier missed a one-on-one chance with the keeper making a save, while Margeman also twice tested his reflexes.

Ndiviwe Mdabuka and Thabo Mosadi had other chances for Ajax, but in the end the single goal was enough to take them into the top half.

Ajax restart their league campaign on February 7 away at Bidvest Wits, while Chippa are in action a day later at home to Baroka FC.
