SuperSport United vs Polokwane City Absa Premiership report

Posted: 21 December 2016 Time: 18:26

SuperSport United came from behind to beat Polokwane City 2-1 in their final Absa Premiership clash of the year at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

City opened the scoring through Rodney Ramagalela, who bagged his second goal in as many matches, after a defensive blunder by Onismor Bhasera.

SuperSport equalised shortly after the half-hour mark as Cole Alexander's cross from an acute angle swerved beyond George Chigova and sneaked in at the far post.

The visitors almost restored their lead two minutes later, when Sammy Seabi did well to rise higher than Reyaad Pieterse to get onto the end of an aerial ball, only to be denied by the crossbar.

United also had a chance at the other end just before the break, when Aubrey Modiba picked out Thabo Mnyamane inside the box, but the latter's shot flew over the crossbar, as the score remained 1-1 at half-time.

The hosts opted to bring on Jeremy Brockie in place of Kingston Nkhatha at the start of the second half, as they looked to create more of a threat up front.

Ramagalela had a chance to bag his and City's second four minutes before the hour-mark, as he opted to shoot rather than pick out an unmarked Jabu Maluleke, and sent his shot over the cross bar.

Just past the hour mark, Mnyamane forced a save from Chigova, as his dipping shot from range lead the City stopper to hold on at the second attempt.

Matsatsantsa were awarded a penalty in the 68th minute, when Klaas brought down Reneilwe Letsholonyane inside the City box, with Brockie stepping up to slot home from 12 yards out.

The win sees SuperSport go top of the Absa Premiership table with a superior goal difference to Bidvest Wits, who have two games in hand, heading into the mid-season recess.

Rise and Shine, meanwhile, remain in fifth spot, four points behind United, who have a game in hand.

Polokwane City: Chigova, Semenya, Klaas, Tema (Mbonani 81'), Maponyane, Seabi (Mngomezulu 88'), Manaki, Ramagalela, Jembula, Tlolane (Ndou 67'), Maluleke.
