Sheldon van Wyk scored the only goal of the game as Maritzburg United claimed a vital 1-0 away win at fellow Absa Premiership strugglers Baroka FC on Sunday.
Baroka had the lion's share of the chances but could not convert and were made to pay when Van Wyk tapped home midway through the second period.
Baroka included Uganda international Geofrey Massa in their starting line-up, while goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke played his first game since his sensational goal against Orlando Pirates that went viral around the world.
Maritzburg made one change from the side that drew 1-1 with Chippa United in midweek, with Mohau Mokate replacing Themba Shabalala.
There were no goals in the opening period, but Baroka had the better of the chances, with the best falling to Marshall Munetsi. But the Zimbabwe midfielder was anable to provide the finishing touch.
United's Bevan Fransman also saw his blocked shot loop onto the top of the crossbar.
There was more of the same in the second period until a little over 20 minutes to go when Sheldon van Wyk had the simplest of tap-ins to give Maritzburg the victory.
