PSL Absa Premiership match report Chippa United Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 3 December 2016 Time: 16:39

Chippa United produced a superb second-half comeback to beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

After a determined first 15 minutes by Chiefs, who did most of the attacking, Siphiwe Tshabalala opened the scoring with a composed finish following a few defensive mistakes by Chippa.

A poor back-pass was miscontrolled and rolled towards goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who had to come out quickly to prevent the hard-working Michelle Katsvairo from getting there first, but his sliding clearance went only as for as 'Shabba', who tucked home the finish with Akpeyi off his line.

The Chilly Boys looked threatening in patches but only really tested Briliant Khuzwayo when substitute Tshwarelo Bereng, who had come on for the injured Mbulelo Wambi, hit a stringing shot from range that was beaten away.

Tshabalala had a penalty appeal waved away and Willard Katsande was booked for going down too easily in an attempt to win a penalty, although there was contact made.

The second half was even more exciting as the first as both sides went for three points, but everything turned on its head with 20 minutes remaining.

Chippa, not ready to roll over and allow Amakhosi to score again, instead equalised on 71 minutes when Lerato Manzini headed in Diamond Thopola's cross from the right-back position.

Just a minute later and Dan Malesela's side had the lead when Thopola, this time cutting back onto his left foot from the same position, crossed for Bereng to brilliantly convert at the far post, as he headed back across Khuzwayo.

Manzini finished Chiefs off with a crisp and composed finish with four minutes remaining, receiving a pass from Buyani Sali on the edge of the area before coolly clotting into the bottom-right corner, on his left foot.

The striker should have had a hat-trick but somehow contrived to miss the easiest of tap-ins in stoppage time, hitting a fresh-air shot just a yard off the line when he really should have been taking home the match-ball.
