PSL Absa Premiership match report Chippa United vs Orlando Pirates

Posted: 22 November 2016 Time: 18:08

Orlando Pirates made it three wins in a row under interim coach Augusto Palacios with a 1-0 victory over struggling Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday night.

Golden Boot favourite Tendai Ndoro decided matters midway through the first stanza at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium with his ninth goal in as many games this season.

Chippa striker David Zulu should have equalised just before the recess but slipped up from close range after Jackson Mabokgwane parried a header from Thembinkosi Lorch into his path.

Bucs fan-favourite Thabo Rakhale threatened straight after the break, as his shot forced a sharp save from Daniel Akpeyi.

The Chilli Boys nearly drew level around the hour-mark when Diamond Thopola's rather innocuous looking effort was fumbled by Mabokgwane and hit the post.

Mpho Makola tried his luck soon after for the Soweto giants but his attempt was thwarted by Akpeyi, while Mabokgwane denied Katlego Mashego at the other end in stoppage time.

The result saw the Buccaneers move above arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs to fifth on the table with 16 points from nine games - four points shy of log leaders Cape Town City.

Chippa have slipped to 10th in the standings with nine points as their winless run stretches to seven matches in all competitions.
