Ajax Cape Town Maritzburg United PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 19 November 2016 Time: 22:15

Deolin Mekoa scored with the final kick of the game to hand Maritzburg United a 2-1 Absa Premiership victory over a desperate Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.

Ajax had the better of the first-half chances but fell behind a minute after the break when Lebohang Maboe found the top corner of goalkeeper Jody February’s net.

Maritzburg had a number of opportunities to add to their advantage after that as Ajax hung on grimly, before Mark Mayambela drilled the ball home from the edge of box with 10 minutes remaining.

Ajax then had two excellent chances to win the game after that through Thabo Mosadi and Prince Nxumalo, but it was the visitors who took home the three points.

Maritzburg made a quick break and Mekoa worked himself into space on the left-hand side of the box before firing low past a static February.

Ajax have won none of their 10 matches in all competitions this season and remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

The Urban Warriors travel to Platinum Stars on Tuesday night for their next encounter, while United will remain in the Mother City to face Cape Town City.
