Posted: 19 November 2016 Time: 13:35

Cape Town City FC claimed the Absa Premiership summit with a 2-1 win over Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

City captain Lebogang Manyama slotted a penalty 19 minutes in after Sibusiso Masina was fouled in the box in Port Elizabeth.

Substitute Judas Moseamedi doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute for the visitors, shortly after replacing Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Chippa reduced the deficit 10 minutes later from the spot via veteran striker Katlego Mashego, but Eric Tinkler's men held on for a fifth straight win in all competitions.

The new franchise have 17 points from nine games - a point ahead of SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, with the latter boasting three matches in hand.

The Chilli Boys are ninth in the standings with nine points, as their winless run stretched to six games in all competitions.
