PSL Absa Premiership match report Maritzburg United vs Highlands Park

Posted: 2 November 2016 Time: 18:41

Ten-man Maritzburg United and Highlands Park played to a 1-1 draw in their Absa Premiership clash at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half in which Evans Rusike had the best chances but was unable to convert for Ernst Middendorp's side, the deadlock was finally broken at the start of the second stanza.

Devon Saal put the Team of Choice ahead in the 48th minute with his first goal for the club, much to the delight of the Harry Gwala faithful.

But Highlands, who gave a good account of themselves in the first half, would not lie down and came back with an equaliser through Thanduyise Khuboni in the 54th minute.

Then just four minutes later Maritzburg suffered another blow as centre-back Bevan Fransman was sent off for a last-man foul on Edwin Sitayitayi as Ernst Middendrop's side had to play the last half-hour with 10 men.

Highlands were unable to make their one-man advantage count and picked up five more yellow cards in a heated end to the game as the two teams shared the spoils.
