Bidvest Wits continued their march towards the top of the Absa Premiership table after a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday.
Wits remain unbeaten this season with four wins and a draw from their five league games played to date, and are looking like serious title contenders.
Thabang Monare opened the scoring after just four minutes, stooping low to head in Elias Pelembe's inswinging free-kick from close range, totally unmarked.
However, just before the half-hour mark th ehome side drew level and raised the volume of the vocal Dr Molemela crowd as Atusaye Nyondo opened his Celtic scoring account by burying a shot into the bottom-left corner following great one-touch football between Musa Ntatama and Lyle Lakay.
The Clever Boys took the lead again in fine style five minutes into the second half as Gabadinho Mhango picked the ball up on the left side of the pitch, played a one-two with Eleazar Rodgers on the edge of the area and finished strongly into the bottom-right corner.
Wits continued to look the more likely team to score in the second half as Celtic tired in the final 15 minutes, offering very little going forward even after the introductions of Fiston Abdoul Razak, Khethokwakhe Masuku and Mahlasela.
The result keeps Gavin Hunt's side well on course to take over at the top of the Absa Premiership standings once they play all their catch-up games. The Students are now third, just a point behind Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows with two games in hand.
