Baroka FC collected a second away win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Cape Town City in their Premier Soccer League clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
A first top-flight goal for Baroka's Zimbabwean forward Cleopas Dube followed an opener from teammate Mzwanele Mahashe, before Given Mashikinya pulled a goal back for the home side, with all of those strikes coming in three second-half minutes.
Dube missed a superb chance to give Baroka the lead but put his header from point-blank range wide of the target when it seemed easier to score.
City thought they had opened the scoring when Lehlohonolo Majoro poked the ball home from eight yards, but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside and the teams went into the break all-square.
But the game sparked into life with three goals in as many minutes as Baroka raced into a 2-0 lead, only to see that advantage halved.
Shu-Aib Walters was at fault for their opener as he could only push a low free-kick into the path of on-rushing Baroka players and Mahashe bundled the ball home.
City had little time to gather their thoughts before they were 2-0 down when Richard Matloga crossed for Dube to score into an empty net.
That sparked wild celebrations on the Baroka bench, and those were just dying down when Mashikinya brought the home side back into the game with a neat finish from Bongolethu Jayiya’s through-ball.
Matloga should have scored a third for Baroka late on, but put his shot wide with just Walters to beat.
