Orlando Pirates Platinum Stars PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 27 September 2016 Time: 18:06

Orlando Pirates missed out on reclaiming the Absa Premiership summit following a 1-1 draw with Platinum Stars at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

New Bucs striker Thabiso Kutumela scored his first goal for the club after the break, but fellow substitute Thobani Kunene equalised in stoppage time in Soweto.

The Sea Robbers were left with eight points from four games - a point behind log leaders Golden Arrows, while Dikwena are seventh on the table with five points.

Stars started the game better, as Malawian midfielder Robert Ng'ambi flashed a menacing strike just wide in the 13th minute.

Five minutes later former Buccaneer Ndumiso Mabena hit a tame effort at Man of the Match Brighton Mhlongo.

At the other end, Pirates talisman Oupa Manyisa fired narrowly off-target midway through the fstanza.

Ng'ambi and Mabena both had further chances before the interval but their attempts were wide of the mark.

Sea Robbers coach Muhsin Ertugral opted to bring on Kutumela for offensive midfielder Bernard Morrison in the 55th minute.

And the move paid off as Kutumela netted with a low free-kick in the 76th minute.

However, Kunene hit back two minutes after replacing Vuyo Mere by heading home a corner at the death for Cavin Johnson's outfit.
