Absa Premiership match report Maritzburg United vs SuperSport United

Posted: 21 September 2016 Time: 18:26

SuperSport United claimed their first win of the season with a 1-0 defeat of Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night.

Bafana Bafana international Thuso Phala netted two minutes before the interval at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Phala tapped the ball home after being teed up by Aubrey Modiba, who was released by a fine pass from former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Goalkeepers Virgil Vries and Ronwen Williams both made saves beforehand in an entertaining first half.

Chances continued to drop in the second period, with Maritzburg's Brian Onyango having to clear off the line, while his teammate Evans Rusike was unlucky not to earn a penalty when he went down under a challenge from Onismor Bhasera in the box late on.

Matsatsantsa have four points from three games - the same tally as the Team of Choice, and three points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.
