Platinum Stars SuperSport United PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 24 August 2016 Time: 17:55

Ten-man Platinum Stars edged SuperSport United 1-0 in their first league game of the season at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Dikwena suffered a setback when debutant Sphamandla Mlilo was sent off in the 54th minute.

However, Malawian midfielder Robert Ng'ambi scored eight minutes later to claim the points for the hosts.

The first half saw Stars' Ng'ambi and Ndumiso Mabena unsuccessfully trade efforts with Michael Boxall and Clayton Daniels.

After the break United midfielders Michael Morton and Dean Furman threatened, with the latter triggering a fine save by Mbongeni Mzimela from 18 yards out.

Soon after defender Mlilo was dismissed for a second bookable offence after tussling with Bradley Grobler on the right flank.

Stars, though, decided affairs just past the hour-mark when Ng'ambi headed past Ronwen Williams off a free-kick by Vuyo Mere.
