Baroka FC played to an exciting 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town in their first ever Absa Premiership clash at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
Nathan Paulse gave the Urban Warriors a ninth-minute lead from the penalty spot after he was barged in the back by Mdeni Zikalala, slotting home confidently into the bottom-right corner.
However, Bakgaga pulled level early in the second half when Richard Matloga ghosted in at the far post to head in a teasing diagonal cross from deep from close range, giving Brandon Petersen no chance.
It was was an even contest, end to end, and both goalkeepers were kept busy, perhaps Brandon Petersen in the Ajax goal the busier of the two as he made good saves to deny Sipho Moeti in the first half and the lively Collins Makgaka five minutes from time.
Ajax created two clear chances in the second half, first when Roscoe Pietersen picked out Eric Chipeta unmarked at the far post but the defender could not keep his volley down, then when Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke saved at the feet of Thabo Mosadi, who was Ajax's most dangerous player.
Baroka created several more chances and should easily have won but were not clinical enough in front of goal, with Albert Mothupa and Lucky Mothwa both guilty of missing golden opportunities in the closing stages.
