Banyana Banyana were narrowly edged 1-0 in an international friendly against Netherlands in Waalwijk on Saturday.
The South African Women's national team are currently in the Netherlands as part of their build-up to the Rio Olympics in August.
Vera Pauw's charges kicked off of their preparations with a friendly against the Lionesses at the Mandemakers Stadium.
Banyana were unfortunate to concede in as early as the fourth minute via a free-kick from Netherlands captain Sherida Spitse.
However, they managed to hold out their opponents, who are ranked 42 places above them, for the remainder of the match as captain Janine van Wyk also twice came close to netting from a set-piece.
A repeat fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, 7 June 2016 at 19h00 at the same venue.
Banyana XI: Barker (GK); Ramalepe, Matlou, van Wyk, Dlamini, Kgatlana (Matlhalo 46'), Mollo (Seoposenwe 46'), Jane, Smeda, Nyandeni, Malherbe (Thusi 72').
